oh, and I don't actually use "wool" - I find it breaks and/or is too stretchy. give me 100% cotton yarn any day (4 ply, used in tablet weaving, makes lovely thick belts :) ) I'm curious, what do you all use? Well, what's a current project anyway? I've just finished some weave for edging cuffs and collar on a saffron coloured coat to match a dress that also has a decorative pattern in dark red, black and gold, which is the colour of the weave I did. I used a design that came out the same on both sides, and a new technique using fishing swivels to get rid of the twist buildup. pics on my facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tablet-Weaving/150438111358

But yes 60/2 silk is very small. 14 cards of Size 10 ended up with a band 3/4 inch wide. Same pattern with 60/2 silk band was 1/4 inch wide. But that's great, gosh 60/2 silk is very fine, isn't it. I'm glad most of my projects use thicker thread :) Sarah _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Heather English Sent: 15 January 2010 20:25 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [twist-tabletweaving] thread weights LOL I had a similar question a couple of weeks ago on another list. But lucky you, I now have an answer... 60/2 silk is (roughly) the size of 1 strand of the thread in a normal DMC emboirdery Skein (there are 6 strands) . Size 8 DMC is about 4 threads of the normal DMC emboirdery Skein Size 10 DMC is about same thickness as all six of the the normal DMC emboirdery Skein You are on your own about the knitting wool, I'm allergic so don't touch the stuff... For example, I use crochet cotton #5, #3 or #8. How do they compare (thickness wise) with silk 60/2 or perhaps 2 ply knitting wool? Ok, this perhaps is a silly example, 2 ply is thickest, followed by 3,5 and 8. I'm assuming the silk is by far the finest, but is it twice as fine as #8? Has anyone found/got a simple comparison chart? Look forward to hearing from anyone :) Sarah PS: For any tablet weavers out there, I've got a brilliant little method (can't be used with continuous warp though) for getting rid of twist buildup - cheap and easy! PPS: sorry for those who are also on the braids & bands list as I am sending this there too! No virus found in this incoming message.
