先のメールにはイマイチとかメリットという観点はなくて、
Twitter API WikiのOAuth FAQ (*1)で、
(Q) When are you going to turn off Basic Auth?
(A) We announced in December of 2009 that we would target June
2010 for deprecation of Basic Auth.
とされているので、あらかじめ対応しておくのがよいのかな、と
思った次第です。もっとも、同じFAQで
(Q) Can my application continue to use Basic Auth?
(A) You can continue to use Basic Auth, but we strongly
recommend moving to OAuth soon. We have increased rate
limits for OAuth traffic to api.twitter.com endpoints to 350
requests per hour, more than double the current Basic Auth
rate limit.
と書かれているので、2010/6に即廃止はされないかもしれませんが。
