At least in macOS 26 Tahoe, Calendar provides a time zone selector similar to the one the main OS time zone setting does, and it does *not* appear to expose anything resembling raw tzdb identifiers. The Reminders (to-do list) app, for some reason, does *not* use the system time zone chooser; instead, it pops up a text box into which you type a city name. It reports mine as "Los Angeles", not as the town that I'm in, and it doesn't recognize the city I'm in. Just for fun, I tried "Utica, New York", and it thought I meant "Amsterdam", as in "Amsterdam, Netherlands". It does know about some cities - Beijing, for example, that *don't* have tzdb entries, so it appears to just have a list of major cities, not the larger list of cities supported by the system time zone chooser. So not *quite* as bad as "exposes the equivalent of raw tzdb identifiers", but not ideal - and they *could* do better.
