Hmmm... binutils 2.10.1 are 10 (in words: TEN !!!) years old. It takes some courage to dig out such old code... U-Boot 1.2.0 is also way over 3 years old. Please consider both versions as hopelessly obsoleted and completely unsupported. Please update both U-Boot and especially your tool chain.
