Haven't done it with Universe, but I've done it with other languages. It's getting harder to find "wedge" devices for serial terminals, but there's still a few out there. You'd probably have better luck finding hardware for a PC than for a serial terminal.
Basically the way most of the sig capture devices work is that they capture the signature as a series of vector points so that the signature can be redrawn. They capture it as a vector, rather than a raster image in order to save on storage space. A couple of hundred vector points take a LOT less storage than a bitmap.
