Karl, I'm confused about your removing the hidden ".Type30" files:
> Here's some detail on the files as they currently exist (I > removed .Type30 from each file to save space): > > BOHDR: > -rwxrwxrwx 1 vsifax staff 761856 Jul 19 12:21 DATA.30 > -rwxrwxrwx 1 vsifax staff 468992 Jul 19 12:02 OVER.30 Are you sure you really removed them? Use the "-a" option of the "ls" command (e.g., "ls -al BOHDR") to be sure '.Type30's are gone. If you remove the ".Type30" file, (zero bytes long, by the way, so not really occupying much space) then Universe treats the Unix directory BOHDR as a Type-19 "file". and the unix files BOHDR/DATA.30 & BOHDR/OVER.30 are just 2 "records" with keys DATA.30 and OVER.30. When you "OPEN 'BOHDR' TO BOHDR.FILE" you just open the directory. When you "WRITE RECORD TO BOHDR.FILE, '12345'", you write RECORD into BOHDR/12345 as a unix file sibling to DATA.30 & OVER.30. As for collisions & retries on the semaphore, the numbers do not look high, but the State=1 is unusual. Does it usually come up "1" or did you just happen to catch it at the right moment. I'd think "1" would be hard to catch since the semaphore should not be on most of the time. Of course, if .Type30 are all _really_ gone, I'm not sure what dynamic files you actually have. If they were opened before .Type30 was removed, I suppose that process would continue to treat them as such until closed. ------- u2-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/
