        How is this addressed in 6.0.8? The 2 gig limit is a hard limit, 
set also by the OS isn't it?

This problem should no longer occur with UniData 6.0.8 or later.
Also - once you have truncated the file back down to an even multiple of
the blocksize and can open it, there is rarely any additional physical 
file
corruption.
With fairly recent versions of UniData, the error message tells you 
exactly
what the problem is and the block size of the file.
Or, you can use 'fileview -p1 FILENAME' from the shell to see the block
size to use with the dd command.
