You can run guide -r UDT_GUIDE, this will report on all of you
files and place the info in the Unidata file UDT_GUIDE. Be sure to clear
the UDT_GUIDE file of old data firs or you may have files in the UDT_GUIDE
file that no longer exist. You can perform this for one file by running
guide <FILE_NAME> -r UDT_GUIDE.
I run this weekly to report on all overflow files and large static files
approaching the 2 gig limit.
Good luck!

Been a very long time since I used it but I'd say the command line that
is built by the * (ie select all files) is too big (guide file1 file2
file3 fiel4 etc)

Can't remember the exact unix syntax but under DOS you can do

"For Each %F in (*.*) do guide %F -na -ns"

That will run guide for each file in turn.

Subject: [U2] Need some help with guide

We had an unexpected system crash last night, and while running guide,
we're getting errors we haven't seen before.

elmer$ guide * -na -ns
Command line is too long, max length is 8192 current length = 8209

Can anyone shed some light on what we're doing wrong here? Our guide
"expert" has moved on to greener pastures.

Thanks,
