do a search for rdiff-backup

http://rdiff-backup.stanford.edu/

it's written in python, and requires a library install as well
(it's easy to install, I was able to do it on RH7.2)

It creates both an incremental and a mirror. It was designed for
WAN use. I have it set to make a local mirror 3x a day. It is really
nice with UV files, especially T30's, in that it will only copy what
has changed in the file.

For us, each backup run takes about 40 minutes (apx 30gb of data)
but it's great that we can keep a mirror for direct copying back,
or save all previous versions for archival copying back (like, I would
really like to have the file as it was 5 days ago).

It uses ssh for it's WAN connection for secure data transmissions.
