Might be miles off here but I think that somewhere around UV 10.1.0 multi-threaded
sorts were added.

The different processes performing the sort use a pipe in the UVTMP area to
communicate. These pipes aren't handled by the rotating file pool so if you've got
your full allocation (whatever your MFILES limit is + 8 system files) of files open
you can't open another. I think the recommendation we got was to change the 'gap'
between the nfile kernel setting and the MFILE uvconfig setting to be at least 12
(preferably 16) rather than the documented and enforced 8.

Subject: [U2] "Unable to open pipe for tsort process"

We are seeing a strange error:

48788 record(s) selected to SELECT list #0.

Unable to open pipe for tsort process.

Message[000000]

We suspect the problem is related to using RTNLIST with an EXECUTEd SELECT.
Followed by either a

READNEXT ID FROM listname

Or doing another EXECUTE with PASSLIST.

But it's not consistant.

Has anyone else seen this? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Environment = UV 10.1.0, Pick Flavor, SunOS 5.9

Thanks,

Mark.
