I don't have the luxury of this. I only have the .mdb file to work with,
obvious answer is to use Access to flatten the file, If this were a 1 time
event, that would be fine, but I will need to access this file most likely
on an hourly basis. I suppose I could setup a task on a PC to convert the
file on an hourly basis as well.....but I'd rather read the file directly

I always pushed the Access database files as tab delimited text files to the
Universe box since ODBC was such a drag on the system

this is fine for windows as the odbc drivers are a standard part of the os
distro.
unix requires ( expensive & pita ? ) 3rd party odbc drivers.

George,

I have successfully done this with Universe on Windows and MS SQL. I
would imagine that MS Access is just another ODBC data source that could
be accessed from Universe TCL. The relevant documentation would include
the Universe Basic SQL Client Interface Guide for your platform and
version. Good luck.

OK. Here's a question.

If I copy an access .mdb database over to our system (unix),
Is there a way to issue a SQL statement from TCL that will
  query the access database?

OR

How difficult would it be to read the data from the access .mdb file,
and populate a UV file for TCL queries? Assume that the UV file would
be wiped prior to reading the .mdb and the .mdb is a snapshot of
current access database, and not actively being used.

We are looking at an application that creates standard access .mdb files
but we will need to import that database into our system.
