Just one other comment that hasn't been made:

Yes having associations in the dictionary should be mandatory for system 
designers. But if you don't, you can associate on-the-fly using ASSOC.WITH. 

That's not a recommendation, by the way. But if you have lots of ugly synonym 
columns (which you shouldn't need any more - not with all the keywords in 
RetrieVe for overriding conversions, formatting etc) or lots of ITypes that you 
don't want to have to fill out association phrases, or using EVAL expressions: 
it is very useful.
