Curt: Also, the manual should give you the escape sequences and codes to produce what you need. I don't have a manual present but I've worked with PCL and graphics modes for years and the test environment takes some getting used to. For instance, you can always use DOS commands to copy a file to a printer. This helps to identify if there are any print driver or U2 specific problems.
Once you know a print job is headed to the correctly defined printer, it's much easier to use BASIC.
