Glenn is right. I like disk mirroring. I have seen big problems with raid-5. When one of the Raid-5 disks dies, the whole RAID set is worthless as all of the data on the disks becomes invisible.
I suppose if the entire server is mirrored, then Raid-5 would be ok. --Bill -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Glen Batchelor Sent: Tuesday, March 04, 2008 5:49 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [U2] Hardware upgrade Why did you choose RAID5? RAID10 offers the redundancy you want from RAID5, but it won't grind to a snails pace when one of the drives fail. It requires more drives, but it gives more performance and reliability over RAID5. ---------------------------------------- Glen Batchelor IT Director All-Spec Industries phone: (910) 332-0424 fax: (910) 763-5664 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web: http://www.all-spec.com Blog: http://blog.all-spec.com ---------------------------------------- > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:owner-u2- > [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Cooper, Rudy > Sent: Tuesday, March 04, 2008 5:32 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [U2] Hardware upgrade > > Hi List, > > > > We're upgrading our UV server.
