At a prior job, we used dynamic files for everything. Some of our files were HUGE.
If you know the rough size a file will hang at (or have some other indicator), we found it best to set these files with a min mod. This was esp. helpful when building a new file and then populating it with millions of records. It saves UniVerse from having to split groups constantly. The other thing to look at is to properly set when the file/groups should split and re-join as the file grows and shrinks. Again, it's been a while since I had to do this, but look for these ideas. I know that the RECLAIM.FILE command is no longer available in UniVerse 10.1 and was under the impression that Dynamic files did not need maintenance. However, recently I was contacted by a vendor selling a tool to resize my files? Is this tool necessary?
