If you had to do it again would you use BCI ?

Its seems verbose but expect that its as you say a matter of getting used to it. I was hoping for something simple like generating a one line query and putting the results into a file.

We do this with both Oracle and SQLServer using the BCI.  We have
UniVerse on Red Hat Linux and use OpenLink as our ODBC Manager.  This
resides on the Linux server for Oracle and on an NT Server for
SQLServer.

You simply connect to the database, create the SQL queries and then
process the results.  This is a quite different technique from that
usually used in UniVerse but once you get used to it, quite easy.  I am
assuming the SAP database is SQL compliant.

We also write extensively to Oracle both to a CRM system and to staging
tables for our Data Warehouse.
