If you can't rename at the Windows level, it's either file permissions or
the file is in use.

Set UniData to start manually in the control panel services applet and stop
UniData - can you rename it? If not the reboot and try again. If you still
can't rename it then it's Windows permissions or something has the file
open. You can get some great tools from "sysinternals" that can help you spy
out the culprit. If you were running WebDE (for example) then you may have
a web application startup that opened the file - just because the web server
is up (just speculating as an example).

If you CAN rename then something in UniData had it open - and hopefully you
can sneak up on it when restarting UniData (don't forget to set all the
UniData services back to Automatic),

Subject: [U2] UD & Windows permissions

   I have a problem with Windows permissions and UniData. I am the
   administrator with administrator permissions on the Windows machine where
   UniData is installed. I have "full" control of all UniData accounts.
   UniData accounts created are created outside of %udthome% underneath
their
   own directory.
   I'm having trouble with one of the accounts indexes and tried the
following:
   2 Intel (0)-> DELETE.INDEX APOPEN,HISTORY ALL
   errno=13: Permission denied
   Delete index file 'APOPEN\X_HISTORY' failed
   2 Intel (0)->
   I checked the Windows permissions on this file and I have "full" control
of
   this file, as the administrator. I was able to rebuild the index with
the
   "BUILD.INDEX" command, but I need to make sure the permissions are
proper.
   I tried to rename the "X_HISTORY" file and try to create a new one but
that
   failed. I've tried several tricks like this one but they failed too.
   Does anyone know why the permissions aren't working properly with this
index
   file?
   Thanks,
   Bill
