I'm not trying to re-invent the wheel. I most intend on using the utilitys
available and that is what we are doing now.

I just want to know how the color raster is converted to a b&w raster.
and I've not had much luck in finding any docs or white papers to describe
the process. (Things that make go hmmm?)
