Sounds like they don't know how to setup the ODBC to your system. And
they would have to know how to get only the specific data they wanted
(date range, etc). Might be a bit much without you walking them through
it.

Good luck! :)

Yes, the vendor has access to our system but we were only allowing
limited
access while they were "trying" to connect and retrieve the data. I told
them to use ODBC. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the help,
Bruce

You created the schema so another program can use ODBC to view the data
(in a single sentence). If your vendor is expecting a text or csv type
file, you could create that using Excel or Access and send that to her.
Or you could skip ODBC all together an create the file using UD.

Here, they use the ODBC to bring the data into their tool and then they
can manipulate it (this is both good and bad). Generally for reporting
purposes.

Does your vendor have access to your system? Perhaps rather than trying
to make this work, maybe this isn't the best solution for your problem.

That is the part that I am missing: how to create the file? With what
tool?
Am I supposed to do something in UniData? Or is this a file that is
readable
from Windows? How do your folks using VB, Excel and Access with the
views
get the data?

Thanks,
Bruce

I would think she would have to create the file herself using the view
you created (or you would have to do it for her). We have folks here
using VB, Excel and Access with the views.

Subject: [U2] VSG view question

Hi All,

I installed the VSG software onto our HPUX UniData machine and generated
my
first view. This is meant for an external vendor to be able to import
daily
sales. I cannot find much in the way of documentation but with the help
that
I got last week I was able to run VSG and create the view. When I told
our
vendor that she could get the data from the view she told me that it is
not
readable by her. She was expecting a flat-file or cleat text file. This
is
neither. Obviously, I am missing something more. Can anyone help me or
guide
to with an example?

Thanks,

Bruce
