I recently read a piece by Brian Stone that 'Q-pointer' meant 'Query-Pointer'.
It was part of a Pick history discussion I believe on Linked In. Sorry I don't have the reference at hand now. I will see if I can track it down tonight. This guy said that when they were brain storming about how to develop the original Pick database, they talked about a way to point to things quickly, thus the "Q" in a Q-pointer stands for Quick.
