Joe: Give it up, please! Your obstinance has frustrated us all. Let me give a couple of examples:
1) You state "Nobody here has come up with any real proof of any clear testing results...other than just sending out "USELESS" "RANDOM" emails" (my emphasis added). Such incendiary words, mixed with posting REALLY unscientific results, not only got your wrist slapped, as expected, but, as is always true with this list, got some friendly offers of help. As Dave pointed out, you started this negative thread with test results that don't even come close to your NOW demanding "...proof of any clear testing results...". Sarah was kind enough to post MUCH MORE valid results than yours that scientifically disprove your theorem and show, to the contrary, UniVerse is significantly faster than Oracle in the defined test. Since these results disprove your initial peevish theorem, you have dismissed them as not "...real proof..." and continue to adhere to, and make, baseless contentious assertions. 2) MV Developers have to work with the database all the time and are normally aware of the many issues related to databases, much unlike RDBMS developers. We all know there is no physical way to traverse a file without utilizing disk access, excluding the concept of caching. Disk access is disk access, whether using an RDBMS or U2 product. Any other view is just plain false! Each database has its own method of traversing the file and extracting information. RDBMS products use a concept called "optimizing" that is normally built-in to the RDBMS. Within U2 the developer must "optimize" data access. They both do the same thing! What Sarah showed us is that if both DBMS products are "optimized" for a query the differences would never lead one to draw the conclusions you've drawn. Again, give it up, please.
