The 6th International Conference on Discovery Science (DS'03) will be
held at the Hokkaido University Conference Hall in Sapporo during
October 17 - 19, 2003. The conference will be co-located with the 14th
International Conference on Algorithmic Learning Theory (ALT'03).

We are now encountered to a rapidly growing digital network society.
Information available for each person is tremendously large and
therefore is far beyond our capability for analyzing and
understanding. A new generation of computational techniques and tools
is required to support the extraction and the discovery of useful
knowledge from the rapidly growing volumes of data. Raw data is
rarely of direct benefit. Its true value is reflected by our ability
to extract information useful for decision support or for exploration
and understanding of the phenomena exhibited in the data source. The
main objective of DS'03 is to provide an open forum for intensive
discussions and interchange of new information among researchers
working in the area of Discovery Science.

The conference will include presentations of 18 long papers and 29
short papers, and share 5 invited talks with ALT'03:

Thomas Eiter (Vienna University of Technology, Vienna, Austria)
Title: Abduction and the Dualization Problem

Akihiko Takano (National Institute of Informatics, Tokyo, Japan)
Title: Association Computation for Information Access

Naftali Tishby (Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel)
Title: Efficient Data Representations that Preserve Information

Thomas Zeugmann (University at Lubeck, Lubeck, Germany)
Title: Can Learning in the Limit be Done Efficiently?

Genshiro Kitagawa (The Institute of Statistical Mathematics,
Tokyo, Japan)
Title: Signal Extraction and Knowledge Discovery Based on
Statistical Modeling

Participants of DS'03 can also attend technical sessions of ALT'03
which will be held in parallel. Furthermore, participants will get the
LNAI proceedings of both conferences.
