First Call for Workshop Proposals
PRICAI 2008
Tenth Pacific Rim International Conference on Artificial Intelligence
Hanoi, Vietnam, 15-19 December 2008
The PRICAI-08 Program Committee invites proposals for the Workshop
Program of the Tenth Pacific Rim International Conference on Artificial
Intelligence (PRICAI-08).
Workshops are tentatively scheduled to be held at the beginning of the
conference, December 15-16, 2008. These workshops are aimed to provide a
forum for participants to introduce their research work and discuss
issues on topics of current interest. Members of the AI community are
encouraged to submit proposals on AI-related topics. Proposals that (i)
promote exploration of new research areas and/or applications in AI,
(ii) close the gap between AI and other fields or between sub-fields of
AI, or (iii) provide a forum for more detailed discussion on topics of
continuing importance are highly welcome. Proposals that foster
discussion and exchange of ideas by including mechanisms other than
traditional paper presentations are especially encouraged.
Acceptance Criteria
-------------------
Proposals will be judged based on (i) the importance and quality of the
proposal, (ii) the potential for success of the proposed workshop
including the community interest and the appropriateness of their
organizers, and
(iii) the history of the workshop if it was held at prior PRICAI or
other conferences. The PRICAI-08 Program Committee may extend
invitations to specific individuals to organize workshop based on
conference needs.
Proposal Content
----------------
Proposals for workshops should be about three (3) pages in length, and
should contain the following:
- Title: Provide the workshop title, and the name and affiliation of
each organizer.
- Workshop topic and goals: Give a description of the workshop topic.
Identify the specific issues on which the workshop will focus. Explain
why the topic is of particular interest at this time. If the workshop
has been organized at previous PRICAI or other conferences, please
provide details and explain why it should be held again and how
improvements will be made.
- Intended audience: Indicate how you plan to select participants and
contributions to the workshop. How many participants do you expect?
Which areas do they come from? If possible, please provide a list of
potential participants.
- Workshop format: Discuss the proposed workshop format, including the
planned activities such as paper presentations, invited talks, panels
and general discussion. Indicate the expected length of the workshop
(i.e.
half-day or full-day meeting).
- Workshop attraction: Discuss how you plan to attract submissions
and/or participants. Indicate if you plan to edit a book or a journal
special issue as a result of your workshop.
- Organizers: Provide the names, affiliations and full contact details
(email and postal address, fax and telephone numbers) of the organizing
committee, and a short description of their relevant expertise. (Please
specify main contact).
Workshop Organization
---------------------
Workshop organizers will be responsible for the following:
- Producing and distributing a call for participation (due by July 15,
2008): This call will be posted on the PRICAI-08 web site. Organizers
are also responsible for distributing the call to relevant newsgroups,
electronic mailing lists, and especially to potential audiences from
outside the PRICAI community.
- Maintaining the workshop web site: Organizers are required to maintain
their own web site with updated information about the workshop.
- Selecting participants: Organizers are responsible for the selection
of participants on the basis of submissions. A selection committee can
be set up by organizers to assist in this process.
- Organizing the workshop activities: This includes producing a schedule
of the workshop activities and ensuring that it is carried out smoothly.
- Coordinating the production of the workshop proceedings: Organizers
are required to produce an abstract of the workshop in one-page length
for inclusion in the conference proceedings. Organizers are also
responsible for producing one printable PDF file of the workshop
proceedings/materials. This file must be made available online via the
workshop web site.
The registration fees for workshops will be determined by the conference
(not the workshop itself). The fees will be paid to the conference, and
the conference will provide workshop facilities including the working
notes printing, the meeting room, coffee break, lunch, proceedings and
etc. Any further expense of the workshop such as the financial aid to
the invited speakers MUST be provided by the workshop itself upon
getting some sponsors for their own workshops. The money from workshop
sponsors will be received by the workshop itself.
We reserve the right to drop any workshop if the organizers miss the
above deadlines.
Proposal Submission
-------------------
Workshop proposals must be submitted to the workshop chairs via email no
later than June 06, 2008. PDF format is required. Organizers will be
notified of the committee's decision by June 30, 2008. Please address
inquiries concerning workshop submissions to the workshop chairs.
