I'm currently doing some work for Gumtree.com the classified ads site, and last week I build a prototype of a Ubiquity search command for them (see http://dave.org.uk/ubiquity/gumtree.html).
The management are pretty keen on making use of this and they'd like to make it as easy as possible for their users to install the command. But most of their users won't have Ubiquity installed, so they've asked me to find a way to install both Ubiquity and the gumtree command as easily as possible. I'm thinking of a page that contains logic something like this: If Ubiquity is installed Present a link to the gumtree command installation page Else Present a link to ubiquity-latest.xpi Wait for ubiquity to be installed and FF restarted Install gumtree command End I'm not sure to what extent some of that is feasible. Particularly the bit about installing Ubiquity and then (once FF has restarted) automatically installing a Ubiquity command. Has anyone done anything like this? Are there best practices documented anywhere? Also, are there any other cases where a web site is distriibuting a Ubiquity command for searching that site? I haven't come across any. It would be cool if Gumtree was the first.
