Unfortunately, there are security issues in letting web pages detect whether Ubiquity is installed. There was a recent discussion about this here: http://groups.google.com/group/ubiquity-firefox/browse_thread/thread/782a005dcabd547c/
At the moment, the best you can do is: * Link a page to the command feed, * Ask the users to install Ubiquity (include a link to the xpi) if they don't see the Ubiquity subscription bar at the top of the page. I wish there were a more streamlined way of doing this (that doesn't involve security issues). - Blair On 21/05/09 9:34 PM, Dave Cross wrote: > > I'm currently doing some work for Gumtree.com the classified ads site, > and last week I build a prototype of a Ubiquity search command for > them (see http://dave.org.uk/ubiquity/gumtree.html). > > The management are pretty keen on making use of this and they'd like > to make it as easy as possible for their users to install the command. > But most of their users won't have Ubiquity installed, so they've > asked me to find a way to install both Ubiquity and the gumtree > command as easily as possible. > > I'm thinking of a page that contains logic something like this: > > If Ubiquity is installed > Present a link to the gumtree command installation page > Else > Present a link to ubiquity-latest.xpi > Wait for ubiquity to be installed and FF restarted > Install gumtree command > End > > I'm not sure to what extent some of that is feasible.
