I have to reverse what I said. We have been having this issue and my climber
found that and have been using zip ties on every AF5x, Rocket and Prism since
last October. Guess that’s what happens when the boss stays on the ground. He
doesn’t know the little things our guys do to make the job be a 1 time climb.

I went up the tower myself and simply wiggled the cable with the slightest of
effort. That's a factual problem. Ubnt admitted there's an issue. You're
just very lucky, hopefully it stays that way or you zip tie like hell.

I can say that I have at least 40 AF5x in the field. I have never had a single
bad Ethernet connection at the radio. We use the UBNT Tough Connectors and
Shireen cable. We used to have this issue all the time due to a crimper that
was OVER crimping the connectors. It was actually mashing the pins too far
into the connector and mashing the clip on the back. Client radios would fail
to have a Ethernet connection but the radio was connected. We went to the:
Ideal 33-396 Data/Voice Crimp Tool

Remember you don’t have to mass the ends to make the crimp better.

I coil up the drain wire and stuff it in the end before I crimp the strain
relief down on it. I've been using this method for years.

My question exactly, how do they make positive contact with the drain wire...

I use the Panduit connectors. They have a spring-loaded clip, and high quality
offset gold crimps. We stopped having issues when I switched to these. They
aren't cheap, and this is the cheapest place online to buy them that I have
found.

For us the toughconnectors seem to work better than other brands

The cable? ToughCable (Ubnt) with ToughConnectors (Ubnt) going to AF5x (Ubnt).

Is that what you're asking or are you talking about the AF5X unit? I haven't
opened any of them up.

I ended up using zip ties to make the cable as solid as a rock. By hand I
can't make the link drop, so I'm sure these 40 mph winds won't be able to now.

I was hoping there was a long term fix rather than "use more zip ties and use
grease" like a better ethernet jack that doesn't have this problem (like what's
found in WBMFG cards, Rockets, Epmp, etc).
