I would love to be more 'educated' in this matter...

How exactly is this achieved in real world ?  
I have been told that if another operator is using that channel & polarity, I 
cannot use it in the other direction...

So, technically it is feasible, but practically how is this accomplished ?

In regards to the Mimosa B11, the fact that they will do GPS Sync, 
automatically, in my books negates the accusation that they are wasting 
spectrum on how they use it... Are they the most efficient ? No......  if the 
implication is that they are 'wasting' in the same category as I need only 
100meg but I am putting up a  350meg Radio category, then I understand... :)
