I posted your ideas here:

some comments. It's partly me trying to get to grips with the topic, so
please comment and correct as needed.
Basically, I want to try to break it down into basic components (so that
I can get my own head around it ;) ). I would rather we focused and did
one of these things really well than try to do too many. Specifically,
it would be good to see things merged in with the main trunk as much as
possible so that it will be carried forward in the future and be
compatible with updates.
If we need to prioritise between GUI and CLI, or whatever (or just pick
a place to start), which one is easier or more important?
