Here's an updated version of my new experimental cursor design for Ubuntu...

That actually looks better than the one before, but I still have a rather fundamental problem with it.

For one, and this has nothing to do with your cursor design, but what is exactly the reason why we're making new cursors? At the risk of sounding closed-minded, I feel as though the cursors we have are great, or definitely good enough to fulfill their purpose. What else is there to do with the cursors that wouldn't just make them look different for the sake of being different (and possibly stray from the design of a cursor that people expect a cursor to look like)? I guess that maybe you could ask for a new waiting cursor, but that's really it. Perhaps someone could clarify what sort of changes there are in mind.

As for your design, I feel that even though it looks good, it doesn't really look like a "proper" cursor. It looks a little too tilted and the stem is too short. I think that whatever cursor set there should be in Ubuntu should look typical, since people don't really need to see anything fancy and unconventional as cursor. I also would try to see if it's possible to fix that edge at the left side, since the lack of a good border like there is on the right side makes it look thin. Perhaps you could also end the stem not with a fully horizontal cut but with a slightly tilted cut, since your cursor appears tilted.
