Hmm, what exactly do you dislike about the maximize/etc? I think those buttons are perfect because they are simultaneously unobtrusive and immediately obvious as to their functions.
-Sumit P.S. That wood background is rather nice and would work well with the theme. I just worry it might not have quite enough 'personality' to be the default background. However, I would definitely want to include that as a preinstalled wallpaper for users to select (a nice light-colored option for those who prefer that over the predominantly darker backgrounds).
