what functionality do you need? if you dont refine it a bit, you'll get

Music sync, which looks viable with gtkpodod thanks to Andy's suggestion, it
seems to handle Podcasts too which I haven't tested as yet. Video would be
nice too which gtkpod doesn't seem to do which is a shame. I'd also like to
be able to sync contacts and calender information from either
Sunbird/Thunderbird or Evolution (Haven't decided which I'm going to use as
yet).

I'm clueless in this regard but as a side note gtkpod did ask what
generation ipod I have (it's one of the newer 6th generation black 30gig
video ones) and seems to pick it up ok, as does Gutsy for disk use.

does that kde music player thingy do video? i thought it did $lots.

No idea, I'm a gnome fan myself so I'd prefer not to install the kdelibs if
at all possible. I probably should have mentioned that.

what is ipod video (format, resolution etc)?

Usually I stick to mp4 encoded at QVGA/ 512kpbs (I don't need TV out from
the ipod so 512 is ample on the small screen). Resolution is 320x240.

Also, in reply to Andy in regard to Rhythmbox, it picks up the ipod and I
can play from it fine but tends to crash when trying to copy from the local
library.

Thanks
