I would strongly suggest that you use a better mail client. Outlook Express has many flaws, and it isn't even being developed by Microsoft any more.
Mozilla Thunderbird is a good pick, as it's open source (built on the same foundations as Firefox), follows standards better and is far more secure. It has a migration wizard to easily move over from Outlook Express, and it's very cross-platform (works on Linux as well).
