I'm trying to set up gmail through thunderbird using imap
I set up the connection as gmail told me to
the connection just times out. I rang bigpond cable tech support to
see if they were blocking port 993, they told that a) they don't
support gmail and b) they don't know what ports they block.
anyone know if they block port 993?
I recently configured an a Gmail account to connect via the IMAP SSL
protocol (993) on Evolution from a BigPond ADSL connection. I followed
the "Configuring other mail clients" guide on the Google website. I
can confirm it was working as intended.
Have you double checked that you've enabled IMAP in your Gmail
account? Can you connect without SSL? Does your router/gateway
restrict outbound packets?
You could always try connecting with telnet:
$ telnet imap.gmail.com 993
