Trevor if you have the proposed source activated in sources, turn it off if you want a more robust upgrade experience.
Generally kernel updates are useful and should be looked at for why it didnt work if there is problems. Theres some good documentation Trevor to help you report a bug, and to do a little debugging yourself.
