Peter, Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, has been a pretty busy weekend :)
Looks like you may have some left over files from an old Evolution data migration. Let's start by scrapping the old stuff (the files in ~/.evolution) and seeing what happens (don't worry, we'll keep a back up of them til we work it out). So, from the terminal: mkdir ~/evobackup mv ~/.evolution ~/evobackup Start evolution again and see what happens.. If it starts, check to see if all your expected data is there.. If it's not. We'll take the next step.
