First of all, extremely sorry for the late reply. Actually, I am still busy with an upcoming deadline and even have to carry on with this problematic ubuntu-lucid

I didn't want to go with compiz or any other heavy graphics stuffs. To ensure it further, I tried to remove compiz if I already have it installed somehow, and got the response as follows: $ sudo apt-get autoremove compiz [sudo] password for raze: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package compiz is not installed, so not removed 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 8 not upgraded. > > Do you get any error messages? for example > > > Warning: Screen isn't composited. I thought software center in lucid just is an alternative of synaptic, but now it doesn't seem to be. I uninstalled compiz, instead of reinstalling, and reboot, and now the problem solved; my visual preference retains 'none' after rebooting as I set it. Should go for reinstallation? Will there be any problem without compiz? > > the other problem, why dont you install ubuntuzilla? > ubuntuzilla.sourceforge.ne > If firefox starts at login it must be in the start up menu... i dont know > why you cant find it. > No, I rechecked. There is no firefox or even internet/browser related applications at startup :) I didn't yet try ubuntuzilla, lets see what happens. I am very much used to with mozilla, now time to explore some alternatives. > > let me know if this helped. > Thanks for all of your efforts.
