Isso nao tem nada a ver com amd64, embora para algumas coisas vc vai ter
trabalho. O seu /boot/grub/menu.lst devera ser alguma coisa como isso:
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.15-1-amd64-k8
root (hd0,2)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-1-amd64-k8 root=/dev/sda3 ro
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-1-amd64-k8
  savedefault
boot
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.15-1-amd64-k8 (recovery mode)
root (hd0,2)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-1-amd64-k8 root=/dev/sda3 ro single
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-1-amd64-k8
savedefault
boot
