Fala eduardo, Acho q faltou vc inicializar a sessão com o XGL. Seguinte, na tela de início de sessão (onde vc faz o login ou gdm para os íntimos) vc clica em "opções" ou digita "F10" e escolhe o item de menu XGL que vc deveria criar previamente, acho que o link [1] citado por mim explica como fazer o item (tem até um screencast sobre a configuração que ele fez pra fazer o beryl funcionar), daí vc loga e tenta. Pelo que entendi da mensagem que enviou, o beryl não esta detectando o composite, justamente pq não foi iniciado a sessão com ele, mas to chutando. Verifica isso e qq coisa retorna novamente, falando se meu chute foi pra fora ou direto para o gol .... ;)
