I had a similar problem with an MS Optical Mouse in Kubuntu (not sure
what kind, it came with keyboard).  The thread below suggested the
driver picked by setup was the problem.

Changed driver from ExplorerPS/2 to ImPS/2 and it worked.  I vaguely
recall it being ImPS/2 when breezy was installed, but am not certain.
Whatever the problem, I've got paste back on thumb button so I'm happy.
