Apparently, the printer itself does not respond on port 631, so I guess it does not natively support ipp.
When I was running Breezy, it definitely autodetected the printer (print and fax). My best hypothesis to explain this is that (i) I had windows running on another PC on the net, with HP software installed which autodetected all functions of the Officejet, and (ii) this windows PC may have published the printer on port 631. This PC is also running Dapper now, so I can't easily replicate the scenario. My network has been reconfigured with fixed IP addresses for all devices normally connected, and now uses DHCP only for ad hoc connections.
