Dirk, it seems you have a slightly different version of the 3945: I have the 8086:4222 (just like Lutfi above), while you have 8086:4227. I don't know exactly what this means.
One thing is for sure: some people have this problem, and some don't. I can assure you that I see multiple access points on mine, with iwl3945 version 1.2.26ks (I'm running a custom kernel 2.6.26.5).
