Unfortunately, I no longer have this machine so I can not test the new intrepid kernel against the hardware. As I wrote in an earlier post in the thread I still believe the lockup was due to some disagreement between the kernel and/or the wifi driver for that laptop's rt61 based wireless card. Removing network-manager fixed the lockup which was caused when network-manager attempted to bring up both the wireless and wired interface at the same time. Sorry I can't help you any more and I appreciate your attention to the problem.
