Hello,

the same here. Ubuntu 8.10 Beta Alternate i386. I added dmesg, syslog
and lspci. Made on the same machine running 8.04 and 8.10.

Actually the same goes for Desktop CD (both 32 and 64 bit), it just
drops to (initramfs) after a while and nothing boots.

It doesn't detect CD device (all previous versions since 5.10 have done
it correctly).

Looks like this could help:

8.04 output
[ 26.001739] ata3: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x1f0 ctl 0x3f6 bmdma 0xe400 irq 14
[ 26.001745] ata4: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x170 ctl 0x376 bmdma 0xe408 irq 15
[ 26.334443] ata3.01: ATAPI: LITE-ON COMBO SOHC-5236V, R$09, max UDMA/44

8.10 output
[ 5.302913] ata3: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x1f0 ctl 0x3f6 bmdma 0xe400 irq 14
[ 5.302919] ata4: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x170 ctl 0x376 bmdma 0xe408 irq 15
[ 5.584084] ata3.01: NODEV after polling detection

Thanks,
k.
