Booting from 8.10 Beta and using usb-creator to make 8.04.1 start up disk again get BusyBox, (initramfs). Scrolling was too fast to see much during debug, however the last line before BusyBox was:
( 57.847326) EXT3-fs: Unrecognized mount option "mode=755" or missing value. I recall removing mode=755 from scripts/casper allows a flash drive created using liveusb to boot in persistence mode.
