Thomas, I think you are misunderstanding the issue. landscape-client WILL NOT run as a regular user. It has to be started as root. And that's what the initscript does (/etc/init.d/landscape- client). So, please, don't break your system trying to make landscape- client run as a regular user.
The same thing is valid for landscape-config: it WILL NOT run as a regular user.
