Why are some installations working and others not? What is happening at install time? Installing 8.04.1 has an interesting result. If the network / Ethernet cable is fitted and connected to the internet when installing the software, then the driver does not work. If there is no internet connection during installation. The driver works. What is happening during the installation to make it change? I have not tried this on any interpid releases yet.
