I am having the same problem here, on a Toshiba Satellite A110-180. When shutting down / rebooting from KDE, the only thing I get is a black screen, and the computer stops there. If I end the session in KDE and then in KDM I choose the shutdown / reboot option, it shuts down / reboots perfectly.
