Touch wood I have a workaround which is to install a VIA VT6421A 3 PORT
SATA SERIAL ATA + 1 ATA PCI CONTROLLER CARD retails less than 10GBP.
Connecting the ATAPI device to the IDE port everything has been fine for
at least 3 days. It is a bit of a punt in the dark as a similar MAXTOR
card with a Promise controller didn't work, it looks like Promise
controllers don't recognise ATAPI devices. The downside it is no longer
possible to boot from the ATAPI device.
