It is clear since before the release candidate that it can't -- there are no working packages for it ATM. That's unfortunately one of the problems of community distributions, that such things happen. As for the Canonical side, of course we are aware that we need more hands for GNOME, and we have looked for another GNOME desktop maintainer for a long time already.
