The problem is that you're not capturing the crash. Probably the best
thing to do is run from the command line:
gdb /usr/lib/fast-user-switch-applet/fast-user-switch-applet
And then tell GDB to run. Then add the applet to the panel. The
version that will get added is your GDB harnessed one, which would then
crash and you could get a backtrace. A backtrace from a SIGINT isn't
useful.
